The worldwide-known website
IMDb.com, a colossus among online entertainment info databases, has finally
decided to add the exciting feature of streaming full-length movies and TV
series, completely free of charge.
The Internet Movie
Database, which has been owned by Amazon since 1998, has decided to make the long-awaited move of
offering its users over 6000 movies and TV shows. A string of major companies such as Hulu, CBS, Sony Pictures Television, along with more than 500 independent filmmakers will be
providing the massive content.
Although the Movie Database will
be hosting and streaming part of the video footage, it has been announced that
embeddable players from both Hulu and CBS are to be used for the service.
The titles offered to the public include
classics such as „Liar, Liar” and „Some like it hot,” alongside popular TV
episodes such as
„24”
or „Heroes.” Other content worth mentioning features „Battlestar Galactica,” „Charlie’s
Angels,” „Star Trek” and the more recent „Knight Rider” and „30 Rock.”
"Our goal is to
show our users every movie and TV show on the internet for free," said
founder and managing director of IMDb Col Needham.
Despite the unanimously appreciated attempt to do so, the
website’s new tool comes fitted with some annoying shortcomings: users have to
search for videos they wish to watch one by one, since a browsing option is not
available and also find their way through a maze of unsorted episodes, where TV series are concerned.
IMDb has made its
name by offering website visitors a huge archive containing movie descriptions,
critics and user reviews and also the most famous Top Movies, featuring IMDb
Top 250.
