IDC, a market researcher, has announced on Wednesday its previsions concerning PC sales for the following two years. According to IDC, PC sales will experience a drop in demand as the global economic crisis expands even further. According to the market researcher, people just can’t afford buying irresponsibly and PC sales will be driven by the need to update older systems and by the ever so popular mini notebook.
The mini notebook is a simple solution for those wanting a cheap laptop that can supply everything they need concerning Internet and documents. According to IDC mini notebook sales will actually help the drop of PC sales, as they sell for a relative cheap price, making other expensive devices not to sell as well.
Shipments in 2009 would grow just 3.8% from this year, with total value of the units shipped falling by 5.3%, IDC said. Previous projections were for 13.7% growth in units and a 4.5% increase in shipment value.
Comparing this with the incredible growth PC sales experienced in the last years, it seems that companies dealing with this domain are in for a tough period. Factors that influence the fall are also noticeable in the slow developing of essential markets such as Latin America, Central Europe, and the Middle East and Africa, which revealed an incredible potential.
Other data pints out to the same grim situation for PC sales, as this year many people suggested that they are not intending to buy a PC in the holiday shopping season.
