Thanks to a new project, people who use Google Health will be able to connect their personal medical devices to their health record through a new IMB software.
The new system will allow patients to exchange vital health information with their doctors and other healthcare professionals.
“Once stored in a PHR, the data can also be shared with physicians and other members of the extended care network at a user's discretion,” according to a statement released by IBM. The software will allow users to update their medical records in real-time through internet connected medical devices.
The system could be useful to store and read medical information from a heart rate monitor or from blood sugar measurements meters.
Sean Hogan, IBM’s vice president said the system is designed to offer convenience and help people safety manage their health data.
The patients will also be guided to a series of links to relevant websites for their condition.
“This is like OnStar for a patient, keeping constant information about you and sending alerts even before you have a problem,” Dan Pelino, manager of IBM's health care division, was quoted as saying.
The only problem would be the implications of Google having access to so much personal medical information. Google assures users that it will keep all data secret and it won’t use if for advertising purposes. Google says patients and only they decide whether they will share their personal medical data with anyone.
