People who already use Google Health program will now be able to transfer their health records directly from personal medical devices to Google Health accounts in real time thanks to a new software product belonging to IBM.
The two giant operators announced their partnership on Thursday.
IBM has developed the new software product with the help from the Continua Health Alliance, an organization that promotes interoperability of medical devices.
Google Health was officially launched in May last year enabling patients to upload medical records from organizations, enter their own data and create their own profile, search for viable information on health conditions or ask for a second opinion on their diagnosis. The program is free to users and available online at
www.google.com/health.
Now, thanks to the new software product developed by IBM, users of Google Health will be able to transfer the health information to their accounts in real-time. This helps patients to keep their health information accurate and share it with doctors and others, even when they are far way. For example, if your baby keeps you busy and you don’t have time to check on an elderly parent who is suffering from high blood pressure, thanks to the new software product, you will receive electronic updates on his/her status.
“Our partnership with IBM will help both providers and users gain access to their device data in a highly simplified and automated fashion. IBM has taken an important step in providing software that enables device manufacturers and hospitals to easily recorded data into a PHR platform, such as Google health,” Sameer Samat, director for Google Health, said.
