Although Hurricane Gustav’s storm surge on Monday flooded
the entire first floor of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, as well as
the parking garage under the building, clean-up began before the day’s end and
the gaming spot is expected to be re-opened soon, according to Biloxi reports.
Workers at the hotel said that guests had been evacuated
long before the storm hit.
Bobby Tuber, the casino’s facility-grounds manager,
explained that in spite of the fact that Hurricane Gustav stormed 30 inches of
water in the building, the casino was not damaged, as it is located on a higher
level.
The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino was one of the major victims
of Katrina’s Mississippi
Gulf Coast
strike approximately three years ago.
The August 29, 2005 storm impeded Hard Rock’s long awaited opening,
as it destroyed the entire casino floor and all the displayed memorabilia.
Elvis Presley’s Army uniform was found a few days after the
disaster took place on the beach, among other debris. Moreover, locals
discovered a John Lennon velvet jacket several blocks from the casino and
returned it to the hotel, as well as Frank Zappa’s panty quilt, made from
panties thrown on stage during the artist’s performances.
It took almost two years for Hard Rock to be restored and
finally opened.
However, yesterday’s storm did not affect seriously the
gaming spot and crew members at the hotel say everything is expected to get back to
normal by the end of the week, according to a Fox 10 report.
