Hulu Adds New Shows To Its Programming List

Hulu, the popular web site offering free, high quality videos of several TV shows and movies, announced its offer enlargement by adding, starting today, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with John Stewart and The Colbert Report and also later this month a number of PBS shows such as NOVA, Wired Science, Scientific American Frontiers and Carrier.

Comedy Central is part of the MTV Networks, owned by Viacom and surely, if the format will be successful many more shows will be featured on Hulu. "I think with success breeds success. It could open some other doors," Erik Flannigan, executive vice president of digital media at MTV Networks, said in a phone interview with Reuters.

Hulu’s decision to offer complete episodes was not received very well by cable operators, considering the move very worrying for their business.

The web site has several contracts with many other companies including FOX and NBC Universal, MGM, Warner Bros. Television Group, Sony Pictures Television and also collaborates with smaller networks. The new deal brings the total programming content partners up to more than 70 and there is still room for other additions.

Hulu also offers an online social networking feature, allowing its users to share the content and unfortunately so far, the web site is only available for users located in the United States.

The video quality offered by the web site’s Flash Video format is better that the one available on YouTube but lower than the one found on the standard-definition televisions.
