Hugh Jackman Will Be The Host Of 2009 Academy Awards

Hugh Jackman is an Australian actor, both in film, theatre and television productions. Along his career, he was awarded several Emmy and Tony awards. To the American public, he is obviously best known for the Hollywood productions he was cast in, some of the most popular ones being Van Helsing and X-Men.

Other movies that the American public may recall seeing Hugh Jackman in include the 2001 romantic comedy Kate & Leopold. For this particular movie, Hugh Jackman was nominated for the Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category at the Golden Globes.

Also in 2001, he joined John Travolta and Halle Berry in action/drama Swordfish. Jackman has worked with Halle Berry on the X-Men movies, which so far have ran from 2000 to 2006. Hugh Jackman won a Tony award for his impersonation of Peter Allen in the Broadway show The Boy From Oz.

This year, Hugh Jackman received the title of “Sexiest Man Alive”, awarded by the popular People Magazine, following in the footsteps of widely-acclaimed sex-symbols such as George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp.

Recently, it has been announced in People Magazine that 2008’s sexiest man alive – namely the aforementioned Hugh Jackman, will be the one to host the Oscars in 2009, which are scheduled for February 22nd.

The producer of the telecast, Laurence Mark, stated that he chose Hugh Jackman “because we want the ceremony to be fun. He can hold the screen and he can hold a stage. It doesn't hurt that he looks amazing in a tuxedo and he's the Sexiest Man Alive.”
