It’s official: hunky Australian actor Hugh Jackman has been
named Sexiest Man Alive of 2008 by People magazine and a triple threat, as a
star actor who can sing and dance but wield a weapon as well.
At 40, Hugh Jackman has managed to accomplish a well-rounded
career. He has starred in blockbuster movies like the “X-Men” installments and
“Swordfish,” romantic films such as “Someone Like You” and “Kate & Leopold”
and has even lent his voice to cartoon characters in animated films “Happy
Feet” and “Flushed Away.” Ever an adventurer, he even produced a musical
dramedy last year in which he also had a part but broadcaster CBS canceled the
television series, titled “Viva Laughlin,” after only two episodes.
Although fully accomplished professionally, Jackman makes it
clear that his personal life comes first and that his wife and children are the
most important to him. In a candid interview with People magazine, Jackman
confessed his wife of 12 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, changed his life around
and that three months into their relationship, he was already thinking about
ways to propose to her.
The two are parents to Oscar, 8, and Ava, 3, whom they
adopted. Asked what his wife’s reaction was upon learning of the Sexiest Man
Alive honor bestowed upon him, Jackman laughed, “God bless her, she said, ‘I
could’ve told them that years ago!’ And then she said, ‘Obviously, Brad wasn’t
available this year.’”
The Australian actor was asked about his first kiss and his
first girlfriend, both happened at 9, with different girls, and he endearingly
remembered the precise full names of children from long ago.
Jackman, who lately sports an astounding physique due to his
upcoming starring role as Wolverine in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” candidly
confesses he was called Sticks as a young man because he had chicken legs and
says people like his smile and lately, his pecs. Go figure!
Oh, and he used to sleep naked before daughter Ava was born
and the family had to hire a night nanny when he worked and, long story short,
he inadvertently walked around naked in the house. Thank you for sharing! He
likes boxer briefs now.
Hugh Jackman attended the world premiere of his new film “Australia” Tuesday in Sydney, Australia.
He co-stars alongside Nicole Kidman in the period epic directed by Baz Luhrmann
which tells the love story between an English noblewoman and an Australian
drover set against World War II. Its North American release date is Nov. 26.
