Wii Shop Channel, the download service launched by Nintendo and similar to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, is adding some new content as Hudson Soft announced that Turbo CD and Super CD game software will be available for download via the Virtual Console feature on Nintendo's Wii.
The classic games will be available for download beginning in October of this year in Japan and Hudson Soft plans to extend the service North America, Europe and Australia.
Wii gamers will be able to play games created originally for CD-ROM media, in addition to TurboGrafx-16 game titles already available via Virtual Console .
As Hudson Soft announced Each Turbo CD and Super CD download will be priced at 800 Wii Points. The Wii Points can be purchased either by credit card or through a Wii Points Card.
Wii Shop Channel was launched last year and three months ago Nintendo said has it has added the 100th game to the library of classics titles available.
According to the data released in June by Nintendo the users have downloaded more than 4.7 million classic games from Wii Shop Channel, at a rate of 1,000 an hour, the most popular game being Super Mario Bros. (NES). A Wii Point equals $0.01.
Hudson Soft’s announcement might be also an indication that Nintendo is considering to add some other storage options beside SD cards to its Wii gaming console.
