It seems that Google’s Android operating system is a real success, as more and more companies are willing to embrace the operating system and even more, phone manufacturing company, Huawei, has announced that it will be launching Android powered smartphones during 2009.
Huawei has only made one smartphone until now, and is planning to design some more, one running on Android and the other running on Symbian OS. Huawei is scheduled to showcase such 3G handset prototype in the GSMA to be held this month. There are more and more companies joining the Open Handset Alliance, an open source alliance initiated by giant company Google.
Among the companies, the most important are mobile phone giant Sony Ericsson, AKM Semiconductor Inc., ARM, ASUSTek Computer Inc., Atheros Communications, Borqs, Garmin International Inc., Huawei Technologies, Omron Software Co. Ltd, Softbank Mobile Corporation, Teleca AB and Toshiba Corporation.
The growing number of companies interested in Android point towards the fact that the G1 has been quite successful in terms of sales, even if it wasn’t the iPhone killer everyone expected.
The Android operating system was designed on the idea that a modern cell phone should be operated more like a computer, and not a limited device. Android does just that, allowing users to get the best out of their phones and out of their web experiences.
With such excitemen over Google’s Android, it seems that other companies producing operating systems for mobile phones, like Microsoft, are in for a ride. The competition is getting tougher, and for a company to win it needs to keep innovation on its side.
