Anna Nicole Smith’s former boyfriend and lawyer, Howard K. Stern, filed a $60 million libel lawsuit against former MSNBC journalist Rita Cosby over controversial allegations in her tell-all book.

Howard K. Stern threatened to sue and sue he did. According to media reports, the lawyer filed the suit in Manhattan federal court Tuesday, seeking $10 million in compensatory damages and $50 million in punitive damages from Rita Cosby and Hachette Book Group USA.

Stern alleges Cosby’s recently published tell-all, titled “Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith's Death,” falsely accuses him of criminal lewd acts, homosexual acts, illegal possession and use of cocaine, conspiring to commit murder and kidnapping for ransom.

In her book, the former journalist presents several theories regarding Anna Nicole’s death and the real intentions of Stern and her former boyfriend Larry Birkhead. She claims Stern and Birkhead were actually in a “relationship” and that they conspired to share Anna’s estate and custody of her baby between themselves.

Following the model’s death, Birkhead was found to be her daughter Dannielynn’s natural father, through DNA tests. He was subsequently handed custody of the baby, who is now 1. Stern became executor of her estate.

Both men denied Cosby’s allegations and accused her of making false statements.

“’Blonde Ambition’ purports to be a ‘tell-all’ book, but it can only be accurately described as a ‘tell-all-lies’ book,” Stern's lawyer, Lin Wood, commented.

Anna Nicole passed away on February 8 this year from an accidental drug overdose. She was only 39. She had given birth to Dannielynn merely five months earlier. Around that same time, her 20-year-old son Daniel had died from a drug overdose.

Anna Nicole’s fortune comes from a previous marriage the model, actress and television talk show host had. At 26, she married oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall, 63 years her senior. He passed away a year later, fuelling accusations that the luscious blonde had only married him for his money.

Anna had been in a legal battle for over a decade when she died, over Marshall’s $1.6 billion estate. Daughter Dannielynn could inherit a large portion of that fortune.

Stern’s lawyer has panned the book before, saying: “It appears that Ms. Cosby has joined the ranks of tabloid journalists who are willing to publish the print equivalent of sewerage to engage in character assassination for profit.”

Birkhead himself told TMZ in early September, “If that's what's in her book, then she'll be sued. And on top of that, there will be other individuals sued over confidential information in my custody case.”

It is probably only a matter of time before he too files a libel lawsuit against Cosby.
