Today, Americans all over the world celebrate the day the Declaration of Independence was adopted on the 4th of July, 1776. The process of writing it was started in the second half of the month of June.
The parent of the Declaration, and the person that has written most of it was Thomas Jefferson, but the document suffered some changes as it was debated by the Congress.
So what do people do on Independence Day? Well, first of all, they do not go to work, and this is actually the spot where they start building up to the events of the day that culminate with the traditional fireworks.
As we are accustomed, the 4th of July is a national holiday, so most of the federal institutions let their employees go out and celebrate what is considered to be America’s birthday.
Most Americans use this day to go out and have picnics and barbecues or just enjoy the outdoors. People who remain in their cities often have the chance to go to free concerts where patriotic music is played, including songs like ‘God Bless America,’ ‘Star Spangled Banner,’ or even ‘Yankee Doodle’ and ‘Dixie.’
But the really cool part of the Independence Day celebrations are the fireworks that are fired at night. Almost all towns and cities hold a pyrotechnics show.
In the cities where this is possible, fireworks are fired above a river or a lake, which makes the show even more spectacular. This custom has its roots in the 13 gun fires that were originally shot to celebrate the day.
