Twentieth Century Fox’ animated family movie, “Horton Hears
A Who!”, is on its way to become a huge success at box office.
According to the estimations released by BoxOfficeMojo.com
for Friday “Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who!” has earned already $13,300,00 in
ticker sales after opening in 3954 theaters.
Directed by former Pixar animator Jimmy Hayward and former
“Robots” art director Steve Martino and scripted by partners Ken Daurio and
Cinco Paul, whose credits include “College Road Trip,” “Horton” gives Theodore
Geisel’s 1954 literary classic a full-blown star treatment with Jim Carrey,
Steve Carell along with folksy news commentator Charles Osgood supplying the
voice-over narration.
The movie is expected to ring up ticket sales of at least
$40 million, possibly more than $50 million during its first three days in
theaters across the U.S. and
Canada.
“10,000 B.C.”, the last weekend number one, gained the second
place in Friday’s estimates with $4,900,000 in ticket sales. The movie tells
the story, of D’Leh (Steven
Strait),
a young hunter who lives in a mythical age of prophesies and gods, when spirits
rule the land and mighty mammoths shake the earth. So far, “10,000 B.C.”
earned $49,704,000 in eight days.
“Never Back Down”, a movie that depicts the story of Jake
Tyler (Sean Faris) in the action-packed world of Mixed Martial Arts, gained the
third place with $3,250,000. The movie opened in 2,729 theaters.
Another weekend premiere, “Doomsday”, a SciFi thriller directed
by Neil Marshall, opened on the sixth place with $1,650,000, behind “College
Road Trip” and “Vantage Point” In “Doomsday”, Major Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra) is leading
a team of specialists, which need ro venture into a 25-year-old quarantine zone in
order to retrieve a cure for a virus.
The other movies that made it into Friday’s Top 10 are “The
Bank Job”, “Semi-Pro”, “The Other Boleyn Girl” and “Jumper”.
