Hong Kong - Hong Kong pop singer Kelvin Kwan plans to leave the entertainment industry for "a considerable period of time," he said Thursday, nearly six weeks after being arrested in Japan for alleged possession of marijuana.

Kwan, 25, who was later released without charge, said he felt shame and regret as a result of the incident.

He also apologized for what he had done although he did not elaborate.

Kwan was arrested with another Cantonese pop singer, Jill Vidal, 26, who is still being detained by police in Tokyo pending the results of tests on substances found in her luggage.

The pair, who have a strong following among youngsters in Asia, were detained by police in Tokyo's trendy Shibuya nightclub district on February 24 after officers found a rolled-up cigarette containing about 0.2 grams of cannabis in their luggage.
