The ever-ingenious Honda Motor Company has come up with a computerized device designed to help factory workers and elders walk easier. The walker machine weighs 6.5 kilos, has a saddle, leg-frames and shoes.
Basically, one who uses the walker machine would feel his legs a lot lighter. The walker machine would make it easier for its users to walk, climb and descend stairs and approach difficult crouching positions with a lot more ease.
The device reduces the load of the body which presses the muscles and joints. Remember, it’s meant to serve the elders.
One must only sit on the saddle, put on the shoes of the machine and push the start button. Then the legs will begin to move and the device will be driven by a computer with motor and gears. The sensors of the machine - powered by a Lithium ion battery - respond to the user’s movements send the information to the main computer so it knows what the user wants to do and how it can help.
The machine is still in an experimental stage and will first be used in a Honda factory in Japan, but considering the fact that the Asian country has a very rapidly aging population, the device may soon hit the market.
Japan is the world’s leader in robotic development. In 2000, Honda revealed the first two-legged walking robot called ASIMO.
