Imagine a world of robots doing everything people can do, from ordinary things like cleaning the house to extraordinary surgeries that can give someone’s life back.
Apparently, this world is right here, although there are still many things that need to be improved, because there is always room for more. And still, if we look at the latest invention in the robotics field, it seems that we are very close to reach perfectness.
It’s Asimo, the celebrity robot of Honda Motor Co. that has now been fitted with a so-called “brain machine interface.” This interface allows Asimo to read electric currents on a person’s scalp as well as changes in cerebral blood flow when a person thinks about four simple movements: moving the right hand, moving the left hand, running and eating.
“By only imagining moving their right hand, for example, a test person can move ASIMO's right hand. The accuracy of a movement depends on the test person and whether that person is good at concentrating,” said one of the scientists involved, Tatsuya Okabe of the Honda Research Institute Japan.
Given the circumstances, there is only one question that keeps on haunting me: what is going to happen with Asimo if, in that very moment, the wearer of the helmet has problems with his/her concentration and something more than “funny” crosses his/her mind? Imagine how confused the little robot can get…Apparently, however perfect this world of robots can be, there is always room for more…
