Honda Unveils Fuel Cell Car

The increasingly high prices that drivers must pay for gas, as well as the competition that has started among car manufacturers to bring vehicles  that are more environmentally friendly out on the market has determined Honda to present a revolutionary fuel cell car, called Honda FCX Clarity, during a ceremony at its plant in Takanezawa, Tochigi prefecture, Japan.

Fuel cell cars rely on the electricity produced by a chemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen to power the vehicles. The emissions are 100% environmentally friendly, with only water vapors being emitted. However, there are a few problems that make mass production of such cars impossible right now.

One of these things is the high cost that is attached to the production of such a vehicle. What is more, there are very few hydrogen fuel stations where owners of these cars could have a refill. In fact, the only place where there are a few such stations is California.

Mr. Takeo Fukui, the company’s CEO, believes that in about 10 years Honda will be able to mass produce the car, and that the number of hydrogen fuel stations will increase during this period of time. Such stations are supposed to appear on the Japanese and European markets too.

The company has announced that it will lease a small number of FCX Clarity vehicles for some people living in California. It seems that Honda has received no less that 50,000 applications from people who want the car, via its website. Among the lucky owners of the environmentally friendly vehicle there are actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Harris, film producer Ron Yerxa and filmmaker Christopher Guest.
