ABC launched “Homeland Security USA” – a reality show about the cops who defend the nation’s borders from illegal aliens, drug smugglers and similar, unwanted individuals.

Don’t expect to see terrorists caught at the border, there aren’t too many of those. You’ll get to see a lot of criminals trying to smuggle weed and cocaine in everything from spare tires to the vehicle’s engine parts. The show practically, whips the viewer around the U.S. and shows off the numerous jobs done by DHS agents.

"The United States, with entry points at hundreds of airports, harbors and along a border of more than 100,000 miles, is protected by the Department of Homeland Security," the TV show’s intro says.

At first, one might get the impression he’s watching a public service announcement or a recruitment video, but in a few minutes the rhythm of the reality show slows a bit and reveals the unprecedented access given to ABC's producers. The “Homeland Security USA” executive producer is Arnold Shapiro, who also created “Rescue 911,” “Big Brother,” and “Blow Out.”

The musical effects that can be heard in the background of the show’s action are slick and actually resemble to some extent to dramas such as “NCIS” and “24.”

The only real problem of this reality show is its repetitive nature. You get to see a police officer trying to get answers from a good-looking woman who has arrived at Los Angeles International Airport without money or hotel reservations and with a suitcase full of exotic dancing outfits, but this kind of episodes are not going to happen very often.

Instead you’ll probably see police officers busting weed and cocaine smugglers over and over again.
