Sixty-seven-year-old actor Ryan O’Neal and his son Redmond, 23, were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of drug possession during a routine check of Redmond, who was already on probation for previous drug charges.

The drug, which is believed to by methamphetamine, was found on Redmond’s person during a probation sweep made by the police to make sure the actor’s son, who was arrested in June also on possession of meth, stayed clean. O’Neal senior was arrested along with his son after further searches turned up a vial of drugs in his bedroom.

Neither the father nor his son appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time of arrest, and both of them were released from custody after paying $10,000 in bail.

Ryan O’Neal first became famous playing in the 1960s soap opera Peyton Place, and later earned an Oscar nomination for his role in the film Love Story, for which he is the most well known.

The O’Neal family has had a history of troubled times as aside from Redmond’s drug bust in June, his dad and half-brother got in a notorious brawl last year (apparently also over the issue of drugs), and his half-sister Tatum O’Neal was also busted for trying to buy heroin in New York.

Redmond is the son of Ryan O’Neal and actress Farah Fawcett, aged 61, with whom the actor has had an on-and-off relationship for many years. Tatum’s and her brother Griffin’s mother is actress Joanna Cook Moore.
