Clearwater police agents questioned the driver of a silver Dodge Viper present at the scene of Nick Hogan’s car crash Sunday, but it was not his father, famed wrestler Hulk Hogan.
According to witnesses, the 17-year-old Nick Hogan—real name Nick Bollea— racing against the Viper in his yellow Toyota Supra just a few seconds before the crash sound was heard. The accident left his buddy, 22-year-old John J. Graziano, who was in the passenger seat in critical condition.
Asked about the Viper driver’s identity, Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor wouldn’t release any name. He just said it wasn't Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea
"Mr. Bollea was not in a car, was not driving the Viper and had no proximity to the wreck," Shelor said Wednesday.
He also didn’t say whether Hogan owned the Viper. According to state records, Hogan owns a 1994 roadster, a 2003 roadster and a 2006 roadster coupe. There are only about 130 of the distinctive Vipers registered in Pinellas County.
Rabih Cheaib, a 20-year-old teen was watching the race and was at the scene shortly after the crash, said he saw the silver Viper come back to the area. He recognized the driver as Dunedin resident Danny Jacobs, whom he knew through friends.
After the unfortunate accident, Nick Hogan is under scrutiny by police in Clearwater, Florida, for a checkered driving history that includes four speeding tickets accumulated in the past year alone.
Per Florida driving records obtained by Tampa Bay Fox 13 affiliate WTVT, the 17-year-old was caught driving 105 mph in a 70 mph zone in Collier County in nearby Naples last September; in February, he was amended for doing 57 in a 30 mph in Dade County; then in April, he was busted for driving 106 mph in a 70 mph zone in Osceola County.
