More and more young stars want to prove they are
multi-talented. The latest is Lauren Conrad, the 22-year-old star of MTV's
nonfiction series “The Hills,” who announced that, besides reality star and fashion
designer, she would also become an author.
The star signed a deal to pen a young adult fiction book
series for HarperCollins, the publisher announced Thursday.
The books, which will be part of the series titled “L.A.
Candy,” will be inspired by Conrad’s transformation from an ordinary teen into
a reality TV star and a fashion designer. The first in the series is set for
release in the summer of 2009.
“It's definitely influenced by my own life,” the reality
star told People.
She said the books were about a girl who moves to L.A.
and…surprise! stars in a reality show.
Asked whether her “Hills” co-stars like Heidi Montag,
Spencer Bratt or Brody Jenner will find their place in her books, Conrad
answered that she was not trying to write a story based on the life of all her
friends in the real life, as their stories were not hers to tell.
“Some of the characters may symbolize people in my life, but
it is in no way calling anyone out.”
Conrad said she loved books that she could lose herself in,
and she was happy she would be able to deliver such books for other readers.
The star’s best gal pal and co-star Lauren Bosworth has been
advising Conrad about the books already, and Conrad said she valued her
opinion, like those of all her friends.
