Father of actress and singer Hilary Duff was ordered by a
judge to spend 10 days in jail for contempt of court.
Robert Duff was arrested Wednesday after Judge Thomas
Stansbury in Houston determined he had violated an injunction against
selling assets without the consent of his estranged wife.
Now Robert Duff must pay the $367,537 he got from selling
stocks last month to a court repository, to be held while he and Susan Duff
continue their long divorce process.
The arrest came following a dispute between Duff and his
wife concerning Hilary’s 21st birthday party. The young singer’s
mother wanted her father to pay $25,000 for a present and a party, on their
daughter’s birthday.
Judge Stansbury eventually determined Bob Duff should pay
Susan $12,500 for Hilary's birthday party.
Robert Piro, Bob’s lawyer, said his client would post bail
as soon as possible and file an appeal.
As her husband was being taken away in cuffs, Susan Duff
could be heard saying that this was not the result she had wanted. Well, it’s
too late now…A little earlier, she had testified in court that the $10,000
monthly support payments that she received from her husband were barely enough
to pay her own bills, let alone pay for a huge birthday party for Hilary.
Hilary, whose birthday is September 28, was not in court,
and neither was her sister Haylie.
