Hilary Swank's Love of Vitamins

Two-time Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank reveals to W magazine in its January issue that she is in love… and that she is really devoted to vitamins.

Hilary Swank was only 25 when she received her fist Academy Award for best actress for her portrayal of a transgender in “Boys Don’t Cry.” She garnered a second golden statuette in 2004, for her role as a boxing champion in “Million Dollar Baby.”

Generally seen as a serious actress who is perfectly suited for drama, Swank has made several attempts to break away from this label, but generally with little success. Her latest is the romantic comedy “P. S. I Love You,” which will be released later this month.

She tells W magazine for its January issue that she could not resist accepting the part of a grieving widow who receives mysterious letters from her deceased husband. “It’s a movie that I loved as soon as I read it. I just loved it,” she says.

She stars alongside “300” star Gerard Butler as the late husband. Lisa Kudrow, Harry Connick Jr., Gina Gershon and Kathy Bates are also part of the cast.

Swank is obviously hopeful that the audiences will also fall in love with the movie and confesses that she has had at least one positive reaction: “Someone who saw it said to me that it’s one of those movies where you laugh through your tears.”

Her recent attempts at roles that are not dramatic include “Freedom Writers,” an adaptation of an autobiographical book by a teacher passionate about overcoming racist attitudes; and “The Reaper,” a horror film that received poor reviews.

She’s got one ally to help through those more difficult days: the nearly 45 vitamin supplements that she takes on a regular basis.

The most “most important ones” she says are her Oz Garcia Longevity Pak.

“I shoved them in my mouth right before I met you, which I actually shouldn't do, because I choked on my vitamins once before,” she tells the interviewer.

Swank has apparently been a “devotee” of celebrity nutritionist Oz Garcia for the past seven years, W comments, and adds vitamin injections to her pills. She also adds exercise to her vitamins: hiking, Power Pilates and Krav Maga, an Israeli hand-to-hand self-defense technique.

“Exercise is also really important to me. I think it gives me more energy. I would rather sleep six hours and get an hour workout than sleep seven hours.”

Last but not least, her healthy life must benefit from the fact that she is in love with her boyfriend of more than 1 year and a half, CAA talent agent John Campisi. “Of course I'm in love. Or I wouldn't be in this relationship for as long as I've been. He's a great guy.”
