Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank had to be hospitalized in order to remove a benign tumor, her manager tells People magazine. Jason Weinberg says that the 34 year old was “experiencing some discomfort.” He added that the doctor “prescribed an immediate course of action that included a brief hospitalization to remove a small, benign growth.”
People didn't say where the growth was located on Swank's body or what symptoms she experienced before seeking medical attention. The Hollywood star underwent the minor medical procedure at a Los Angeles medical centre.
She's fine now, at home resting and has nothing to worry about. She actually has to gain a pretty serious amount of weight for her next film, movie adaptation of “French Women Don’t Get Fat.” Rumor has it that she'll gain 20 to 30lbs. Hilary will play the manager of a champagne company in the film, which she is also producing. The subject of the movie can be quite intriguing for young ladies worldwide, as it is all about slim French women who eat calorific treats including bread, wine and cakes and never put on weight.
Swank won a couple of best actress Academy Awards before the age of 30: in 2000 for "Boys Don't Cry" and in 2005 for her role as a boxer trained by Clint Eastwood's character in "Million Dollar Baby."
Her Hollywood film career began with a small part in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” back in 1992, followed by a major part in “The Next Karate Kid” in 1994, where she played Julie Pierce, the first female protégé of the sensei Mr. Miyagi. Swank has been acting professionally since she was 16.
She was named one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 2000, 2004 and 2005. As of 2008, she is only one of six actors who have a 2-0 winning record when nominated for an acting Oscar. The others are Luise Rainer for “The Great Ziegfeld” (1936) and “The Good Earth” (1937); Vivien Leigh for “Gone with the Wind” (1939) and “A Streetcar Named Desire” (1951); Helen Hayes for “The Sin of Madelon Claudet” (1931) and “Airport” (1970); Sally Field for “Norma Rae” (1979) and “Places in the Heart” (1984); and Kevin Spacey for “The Usual Suspects” (1995) and “American Beauty” (1999).
She is the third-youngest double Best Actress winner (after Rainer and Jodie Foster). After winning her second Oscar, she said, "I don't know what I did in this life to deserve this. I'm just a girl from a trailer park who had a dream." Swank had earned only $75 per day for her work on Boys Don't Cry, culminating in a total of $3,000.
