High School Musical 3: Senior Year had a fantastic start as it managed to sell tickets in movie theaters valuing $42 million in North America and another $40 million internationally in the first weekend after it was released. This makes Disney’s new movie the undisputed leader at The Box Office managing to reach number 1 in charts all over the world, a performance that was last time achieved by the movie “Batman: The Dark Knight.”
High School Musical 3 is directed by Kenny Ortega and it stars Zac Effrons and Vanessa Anne Hudgens as the main characters. The movie is an adaptation of a famous TV movie franchise made popular by Walt Disney.
The movie deals with the regular drama teenagers' experience, going to college, being separated from their life-time friends and the best way one could deal with this.
Maybe one of the reasons High School Musical 3 was so well received is because it’s a light movie, a movie that can lighten the atmosphere with some teen comedy. High School Musical 3 is in direct competition with the newly released horror, Saw V, which didn’t manage as well as the teen comedy in terms of sales. Momentarily, Saw V comes in as number 2 in the charts, managing to sell tickets valuing $30.5 million.
Max Payne also struggles to attract more and more people to the big screen, but currently it only occupies third place, selling $7.6 million in movie tickets. All in all, the fight is between a light teen comedy, a harsh horror movie and a game that is made after a video game. The public will decide.
