"High School Musical 3: Senior Years" has been promoted heavily at the Disney theme park and on the Disney Channel. The film is expected to take in at least $39 million in its first weekend.
The central performers, Zac Efron as Troy Bolton, Vanessa Hudgens playing Gabriella Montez, Ashley Tisdale as Princess Sharpay Evans, Corbin Bleu in the shoes of Chad Danforth and Lucas Grabeel as Ryan Evans, have reached their senior year in high school, trying to act more like grown-ups.
But, for fans, there is no need to worry about the fictional characters that leave the stage and head off to Juilliard, Berkeley, Yale, Stanford and the University of Arizona, as there are some new characters introduced in the story to ensure the series will continue with other stories.
The central theme of the musical is, as you may guess, love, as seen from a pre-adolescent point of view. The key moments of the Disney musical directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega (known for his work with "Xanadu" and "Dirty Dancing") are the major basketball game, the student’s long awaited prom night that brings all the characters together and, the tip of the iceberg, the spring musical. One of the teens’ biggest fears would be that of their relationship falling apart because they would be miles apart.
A memorable verse marks the end of this series of the popular musical: "I want the rest of my life to feel just like a high school musical."
