It’s no secret that the former hit show “Heroes” has undergone a serious drop in audience and, consequently, ratings. It’s possible that NBC decided that a change of staff would freshen up the show and sky-rocket it to the top again. A new perspective on the show and some changes in the story might change the fate of this once riveting series.
On Sunday, both Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb, co-executive producers on “Heroes”, were let go. The decision is still peculiar, as they have been on the show’s producing and writing team since its first season. Also, they were Tim Kring’s (creator and executive producer) most trusted men and were made responsible by him for the daily production operation of the show.
The show started to experience a drop in ratings with its third season. It seems that Alexander and Loeb were removed from the team because executives were displeased, to say the least, with the creative department. The show had very few die-hard fans, despite it being one of NBC’s strong points. Casual fans quickly turned to other shows when “Heroes” started to disappoint. The team that produces the show has also been known to heavily exceed the allocated budget, a budget which is big enough already – a whopping $4 million per segment.
Matt Rush (TV Guide) had a pertinent, yet accurate description of the show and a reason for why it is letting down fans and flopping rating-wise. He claims that not even critics are interested in watching the show anymore, not to mention your average viewer. In his opinion, the show is now packed with a lot of useless innards, which doesn’t make it complex and gripping, but basically a drag to follow and understand.
