Hellboy Gives Them Hell At The Box Office

The release of Hellboy 2: The Golden Army managed to attract massive crowds to theatres all across the country, opening yesterday with an estimated $12,7 million. Many expect that by the end of the weekend, the movie to bring in more than $30 million.

The highly anticipated sequel offers director Guillermo del Toro’s vision and attraction towards weird creatures and astonishing special effects. Ron Perlman returns as Hellboy, as the movie surely wouldn’t have been the same without him and Liz, played by Selma Blair, is also present once again as his love interest. The story finds the two and the Piscean Abe Sapien, played by Doug Jones, still involved with the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, and the plot is set with Prince Nuada (Luke Goss), looking to cross an ancient truce made between the humans and the ancient people, by waking up the Golden Army.

The creator of the original Hellboy comic, Mike Mignola, was also involved in the writing of the script, adding a lot more to the movie’s action. Its 110 minutes take the viewer to a fantasy world meant to take one’s mind off the day to day thoughts and worries.

Hellboy’s revenues are seconded by the $10 million cashed in by Will Smith’s Hancock, which is also a huge hit at the box office. Number three is occupied by the Journey to the Center of the Earth with its $6.5 million and the fourth spot is taken by Disney’s WALL-E with $5.5 million.

The list continues with Universal’s Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie, which brought in $3.5 million on Friday, Warner Bros’ Get Smart with $3 million, Meet Dave had $1.5 million and the list is closed by DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda, The Incredible Hulk and Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
