A small helicopter crashed into a freeway in South Los Angeles and the impact led to the death of one person, officials said.
The accident took place at about 11 p.m. on Friday night in the southbound lanes of Highway 110 in south Los Angeles, according to the sayings of Fire Department spokesman Ron Myers.
Several fire crews were immediately deployed at the scene of the accident and they found the helicopter on fire when they arrived. More precisely, 6 Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, 2LAFD Rescue Ambulances, 1 Heavy Rescue, 1 EMS Battalion Captain, and 1 Battalion Chief Officer Command Team, under the direction of Battalion Chief Randy Beaty responded to the Helicopter Crash.
The corpse of the victim was pulled as soon as possible from the charred fuselage, but its identity hasn’t been released yet, Myers said.
The aircraft was a two-seated Robinson R22 according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Bruce Nelson. The FAA ad the National Transportation Safety Board sent its investigators at the scene.
No other injuries were reported, although some vehicles may have driven over debris. The California Highway Patrol reopened some lanes in both directions later Friday.
A big segment of the highway was littered with the debris resulting from the crash.
