British actress Helena Bonham Carter and her husband, director Tim Burton, became the proud parents of a baby girl on Saturday, People magazine reported.
Born in London, the baby girl is the couple’s second child. Bonham Carter and Burton, who didn't want to know the baby's gender before birth, already have a 4-year-old boy, Billy.
"They are absolutely delighted they have a daughter," the actress's rep, Karon Maskill, was quoted by People. "It's a lovely Christmas present for the family."
No further details were available immediately.
Most recently, they both received Golden Globe nominations, Bonham Carter, 41 for her act as a ghoulish baker in Burton's musical adaptation "Sweeney Todd," which opens in limited release on Friday, and Burton, 49, for best director.
"Tim's assistant gave us the news," Helena said when asked about the nomination. "We're in the hospital because I'm supposed to have a baby tomorrow. It comes at a time when there's a larger event happening, an event almost as large as my stomach right now."
"We were talking about inducing, and Tim got a call from his assistant," the actress, recalled on Thursday, before the birth. "I do look like a globe, so it's kind of funny. I am very round."
"Maybe the baby’s going to come out with his hands on his ears. ‘Shut up!’ " she laughed, adding that the anticipation of meeting the new baby was very intense.
"I just can’t wait," she said. "It’s hard to imagine we can make anything other than Billy."
The couple, who recently bought a home in the English countryside, announced the pregnancy in August, after pictures of Helena in a bathing suit sporting a baby bump emerged online. Two months later, in October, the actress opened up about her struggle to get pregnant.
After trying to conceive for two years, the actress had been told she may no be ovulating before she began to take the fertility drug Clomid, but things didn't go as planned. She then switched to more natural methods such as acupuncture, still with no results.
In the latest issue of Playboy, the actress revealed that she became pregnant midway during the "Sweeney Todd" production, causing continuity problems since the film was not shot in sequence.
"I start off with huge breasts, and then I walk upstairs and suddenly I've got tangerines again," she said. "It's melons to tangerines."
