Wednesday, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt revealed that the wedding ceremony they had near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which was reported, along with a photo spread, in Wednesday’s issue of Us Weekly, had not yet been legalized.
The couple eloped to Cabo San Lucas, where they had a symbolic ceremony officiated by a minister and photographed by the hotel photographer, according to a statement released by Montag and Pratt.
Nevertheless, although they said they would have their marriage legalized in the United States, they did not reveal when they were planning to do so.
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were the ones who provided the photos from their ceremony held on November 20 to US Weekly, which also published an interview with the couple, revealing details on the rings, Heidi’s dress and their handwritten vows.
The magazine’s report added that neither friends nor family of the two had been present for their symbolic marriage. And that maybe because, according to US Weekly, Montag and Pratt made the decision while drinking margaritas on the beach and within an hour, they were at the chapel near Cabo San Lucas.
The Mexican law stipulates that only civil marriages officiated in the state are internationally valid, while American citizens who want their marriage to take place in Mexico have to go through a 5-day process, which entails getting a health certificate and providing translations for legal documents.
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt’s relationship has been chronicled by “The Hills” MTV show, which will feature the couple’s marriage and honeymoon, according to executive producer Liz Gateley. For the time being, MTV is filming Montag and Pratt in Mexico, in order to offer viewers exclusive footage from the ceremony during the following episode.
