Heather Mills Cites Privacy Issues for Her Appeal

Heather Mills, now officially ex-wife of Beatle legend Paul McCartney, wished to appeal against the publication of the entire judgment because it contains private details about herself and the couple’s daughter but has lost her bid.

Paul McCartney and Heather Mills saw their divorce finally reach a settlement as a High Court judge on Monday ordered the veteran singer to pay his estranged wife $48.6 million. The ruling was imposed after the couple failed to reach an agreement last month.

Mills declared she was “very, very, very pleased” with the decision but added she would appeal against the publication of the entire judgment as it contained private details about her life as well as that of her and McCartney’s only child, 4-year-old daughter Beatrice Milly, which could affect their safety.

BBC News reports that Mills was denied permission to appeal the publication on Tuesday, which means that the public will learn all details of the messy divorce.

“I’m not appealing against the judgment because it’s not worth it,” the animal rights activist told reporters yesterday outside court. “I’m appealing against the publication of it because it has so many details of me and my daughter in it.”

McCartney, 65, and Mills, 40, married in 2002 and welcomed daughter Beatrice Milly in October 2003. The little girl is Mills’ first child; the former Beatle has four adult children, including fashion designer Stella McCartney, from his marriage to Linda McCartney.

The couple announced their separation in 2006, saying they had “found it increasingly difficult to maintain a normal relationship with constant intrusion into our private lives.” Chaos evolved from here, with many regarding Mills as a gold-digger. She has always denied these allegations, insisting that all she cares about are her charities.

It has been revealed that she was seeking almost $250 million of her former husband’s fortune. She said yesterday she had been offered $31.6 million.

Following the ruling, Mills will receive $33 million, plus the assets she currently holds, worth $15.6 million, the Associated Press reports, while McCartney also has to pay for Beatrice’s nanny and school fees. The girl will receive $70,000 a year until she turns 18.

Mills represented herself throughout the divorce hearing and was not present at the Court of Appeal to hear the decision this morning regarding her appeal against the publication.
