Before playing in “Brokeback Mountain,” Heath Ledger wrote a will in
which he left all his possessions to his parents and sister. New York’s Daily News reported yesterday.
The actor, who died at
the age of 28, of an accidental prescription drug overdose in February, wrote a
three-page will, while he was in his native country, Australia in 2003.
As the will was
written before the actor met Michelle Williams, his ex-wife and their
2-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose, are not mentioned in the document. It seems
that Ledger had around $145,000 in New
York assets at the time of his death, including a
$25,000 Toyota Prius, $100,000 shared in various bank accounts and about
$20,000 in furniture and fixtures.
The real size of his
total wealth is not known, nor is the value of his Brooklyn
house, that he used to share with Michelle Williams and their child. It is also uncertain whether there will be any
provisions for the actor’s former wife and his daughter.
Michelle Williams, 27, and Heath Ledger, 28,
met on the set of the 2005 movie "Brokeback Mountain," fell in love
and had Matilda, who is now 2 years old.
Ledger’s lawyer,
Harvey Corn, asked a judge to seal the documents, in order to protect the
family’s privacy, while Mara Buxbaum, Ledger’s spokesperson, refused to
comment.
In an interview for
Elle magazine, a few days before Ledger’s death, Michelle Williams had
eventually revealed her feelings concerning the break-up with the “Brokeback Mountain” actor.
“[Heath and I] had
broken up – way before it became a news story - and I didn’t know where to go.
I couldn’t imagine any place in the world that was gonna feel good to me,” she
said, referring to her move to Portland,
for the film role in „”Train Choir.”
“Whatever I’ve
suffered, I feel like the work I get to do is an absolute blessing” she added. “Because
whatever I feel inside, it has a place to go. It just saves me over and over again.”
After Heath Ledger’s
death, Michelle Williams issued just one statement in which she asked for privacy.
"Please respect our need to grieve
privately," Williams said. "My heart is broken. I am the mother of
the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the
spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside
her that reveals itself every day."
Also, last month it
was announced that Terry Gilliam’s “The Imaginarium of
Doctor Parnassus”, the movie on which Heath Ledger was working at the time of
his death, will be salvaged through the participation of actors Johnny Depp,
Jude Law and Colin Farrell.
Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell have all signed on to play Ledger's
character, ‘Tony,’ in the film. This is possible because the script, penned by
Terry Gilliam and Charles McKeown, has Ledger’s character travel to three
magical worlds through a magical mirror; in each world, he will be incarnated
by one of the three new cast members.
