Heath Ledger’s father told the Associated Press that the Golden Globe his son had received posthumous must go to his 3-year-old daughter, Matilda. Ledger received the award for his role as the evil Joker from the fabulous movie “The Dark Knight.”
Kim Ledger, who lives in Perth, Australia, said that he felt a “bittersweet” sensation of pride when he watched the Golden Globe Awards and found out that his son was awarded with such an honor. Ledger’s role as the Joker also brought him a Critics Choice Awards and is expected to get an Academy Award nomination too.
When director of “The Dark Knight,” Christopher Nolan, went on stage to get Ledger’s trophy, the crowd stood and started to ovate the great actor who passed away last year. Kim Ledger added that such ovations “break you up” and really reach to your heart.
Sally Bell, Ledger’s mother, told in an interview with the People magazine that she felt it was natural that the award finally goes to Matilda, even if she is too little to understand its value. Bell added that it is supposed to belong to her, because she is a part of him.
Ledger’s mother also said that the experience Ledger had with this movie seemed to be like a rollercoaster and a lot of emotion is connected to “The Dark Knight” on Ledger’s behalf. Bell added that first you have to deal to such an amount of emotion in order to relax and enjoy the movie to its end.
Ledger died in January 2008 because of an accidental overdose. Matilda is the daughter he has together with Michelle Williams. The two separated only a few months before his death and the girl is now raised by the mother.
