The Golden Globe ceremonies have ended two nights ago, and the event was astonishing to say the least. Usually a very glamorous affair, the award ceremony suffered modifications last year. In 2008, around the time the Golden Globe ceremony was scheduled, the writers’ strike was still in progress.
Many of the actors in Hollywood showed their support openly to the writers and their cause, some of them even joining the picket lines. In addition, they agreed to have the ceremony replaced by a press conference that announced the winners and the nominees. It was obvious that the expectations were high for this year’s edition and the organizers and showbiz audience did not disappoint.
The most emotional moment of the evening was when Heath Ledger was posthumously awarded the Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, for his unique and widely acclaimed impersonation of The Joker in the Batman movie The Dark Knight. The acceptance speech was delivered by the movie’s director, Christopher Nolan, who praised Ledger’s acting abilities and the roles he had in the past, while mourning the loss of a friend and an actor with remarkable potential.
The audience gave a standing ovation after the speech, which gave the late actor’s family a feeling of bittersweet pride. The family believes and hopes that the Golden Globe will go to Matilda, Heath Ledger’s 3-year-old daughter.
