In a sad twist of events triggered by Heath Ledger's will, the actor's uncles have gone public with their concerns over Heath's father Kim Ledger's spotty track record of managing financial estates.
As you may remember, following Heath's death two months ago, it was revealed that he had left his entire fortune to his parents and sisters, because he hadn't updated his will since before his relationship with actress Michelle Williams and the birth of their daughter, Matilda. Hence, his daughter and mother of his child were both left out of his will.
However, when Heath's will was unveiled, his father claimed very convincingly that "Matilda is our absolute priority and Michelle is an integral part of our family. They will be taken care of and that's how Heath would want it to be."
Now, Mike and Hayden Ledger are speaking against their brother's skills in handling estates and claim he shouldn't be in charge of the actor's millions.
According to them, 15 years ago, Kim so poorly managed the estate their grandfather, millionaire engineer Sir. Frank Ledger, that he had to be removed as executor.
"It plunged into enormous debt," Mike Ledger was quoted by People as saying, "Our only vested interest is to assure that Matilda is well looked after."
It is estimated that the estate left by Ledger's grandfather was worth more than $2 million back in the '80s. Kim was removed from the estate by the Supreme Court due to a ruling that stated Kim's handling of the estate "placed the assets at risk."
"When you are talking about large sums of money like this, it should be an independent executor, but Kim hasn't chosen that way," Mike added.
Another of Heath’s uncles, Hayden, says he was approached by the father of Michelle Williams and asked if Kim was capable of handling the estate.
"I just said, ‘No, not if he handles it like ours,’" Hayden recalled.
Speaking from the other side of the barricade, Robert John Collins, the executor of Heath's will, who has known the family for over 30 years, dismissed the claims by Mike and the others as "rubbish".
Rumors are that Kim and his two brothers have been estranged ever since he almost ruined their grandfather's fortune, enough so that 17 family members weren't even invited to Heath's memorial and funeral.
"I'm his godfather. We didn't even have the ability or the opportunity to pay our last respects to Heath. And I tell you, that is terrible – that is so sad," Mike said.
