Heath Ledger’s sister, Kate, told reporters backstage at the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday night that she and her family were expecting the late Australian actor’s final movie.
With regard to Terry Gilliam’s upcoming “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” Kate Ledger said that she believed “it’s going to be amazing” after seeing fragments of the recording.
The film marks Heath Ledger’s last film, as the actor died early last year at the age of 28 as a result of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. On Sunday, he was awarded with an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his critically acclaimed performance in last summer’s Batman blockbuster “The Dark Knight.”
Thus, everybody longs to see Heath Ledger in his final film and many questions have been raised regarding the production’s release date.
“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” which deals with a wandering magician who offers customers even more than they asked for, is a joint production of financial entity Grosvenor Park and sales tycoon Samuel Hadida of Davis Films. Although the movie was moving smoothly giving the impression of just another independently funded film, Heath Ledger’s death in the middle of production drew a dim light on his vehicle.
In spite of the fact that the project’s fate was at first questioned, Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp entered the stage and took on different stages of Ledger’s part, thus saving the production.
Several U.S. purchasers were said to seek acquiring stateside rights, but talks soon vanished from the public eye and, as a result, stirred speculation regarding matters such as dispute among producers over funding.
