The death of talented, young actor Heath Ledger was a tragedy of epic proportions. Fans from around the world and the whole movie industry expressed their sympathy and deepest regrets after the mysterious death of the young Aussie. He shall forever be remembered for the few, yet masterfully played parts.
Except for charming parts in adventure movies like “A Knight’s Tale” or romantic comedies like “Ten Things I Hate About You”, he also made a statement on homosexuality as Ennis in “Brokeback Mountain”. His last part on the big screen was the impersonation of consecrated Batman character Joker. Critics and fans alike swooned over Heath’s brilliant performance, over how he so genuinely played a madman, how close his character came to the original villain in the “Batman” comic book series. For his performance, he was even offered the Best Actor Award by the Australian Film Institute, which was posthumously accepted by his family.
The series of awards is nowhere near being over for Heath Ledger, despite the tragic fact that the brilliant young actor is no longer among us. According to the Golden Globe nominations which were announced this morning, Heath Ledger was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category. The movie “The Dark Knight”, however, was not, a fact that raised a lot of questions.
Many wondered how it was possible for Christopher Nolan’s movie not to be nominated at the Golden Globes. In terms of box office success, “The Dark Knight” was only beat by “Titanic”, and the latter earned plenty of nominations and awards in its year, namely in 1997.
