Ceremony awards are usually happy, glamorous events, where stars gather to gain recognition for their innate talent and hard work. The Golden Globes awards ceremony is just such an event, and the pressure to astound and impress was even bigger this year.
The reason for the raised expectations was that last year, the usually stunning ceremony was replaced by a very modest press conference, as a sign of respect for the Writers’ strike that was taking place when the Golden Globes ceremonies were scheduled – most of the actors showed their support to the writers by endorsing the press conference.
This year, the event was indeed everything one would expect from a ceremony that is undoubtedly among the most prestigious and prominent. However, except for the usual emotions brought on by the awards, the audience had a very emotional moment when the award for Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture was given posthumous to Heath Ledger, for his unique and widely acclaimed impersonation of The Joker in the Batman movie The Dark Knight. The whole audience gave a standing ovation, and Christopher Nolan delivered a heart-wrenching, somber acceptance speech for the late Heath Ledger.
Most of the actors that commented about his early death caused by an overdose of prescription drugs were of the opinion that the young actor would have had a brilliant acting career ahead of him.
