When it comes to the elections, at least there’s something else to talk about, other than Bristol Palin’s baby, baby’s father and baby’s gift basket from Jamie Lynn Spears.
The new headlines regarding Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are still not about politics, but they do have a rather legal aspect to them: the unapproved use of a song to make things less tensed for the Republicans.
Ann and Nancy Wilson, also known as the singing duo Heart, found themselves caught in something they say doesn’t reflect their political beliefs. Their ‘70s classic "Barracuda" was used, without their consent, as the official theme for Palin’s campaign. Neither the group, Universal Music Publishing or Sony BMG were asked permission for the use of the tune, but the two sisters say that they wouldn’t have granted it anyway.
"Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image...It was written in the late '70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women...There's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there."
The duo requested that their song would no longer be used to promote Sarah Palin’s image. But it looks like Heart actually did Palin a favor, as she seems to only choose the song for its title, a little something to remind her of her high school years, when Barracuda was her nickname. On a closer look, the lyrics are anything but flattering for a woman in her position: “You lying so low in the weeds,I bet you gonna ambush me, You’d have me down down, down, down on my knees, Now wouldn’t you, barracuda?”
You kind of want to send a thank-you note to the big hearted girls who wouldn’t allow these words being associated with you, now wouldn’t you, Mrs. Palin?
