Saturday, Dec. 9, the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas will host a long awaited fight: “The Hitman” Ricky Hatton vs. “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather.
Coming after a victory against the legendary Oscar de la Hoya, 30-year-old Mayweather, who holds an impressive record of 38-0 (24 by knockout), and 6 titles in five weight classes, seems very confident: “It's going to be hard for the sport of boxing to fill my shoes.”
On the other hand, Mayweather’s opponent, the 29-year-old Ricky Hatton, comes after 43 straight victories (31 by knockout) and promises to give Mayweather a fight he will never forget: “I've got the style to give Floyd Mayweather absolute nightmares.”
The British boxer admits that Mayweather’s punches have a “fantastic” speed, but they lack power. And Oscar de la Hoya seems to agree with Hatton. According to Fox Sports, de la Hoya declared: “Floyd doesn't rely on power, he relies on speed and from what I've seen with Hatton, he relies on speed and power.”
Confident in his victory on Saturday night, Hatton says he is going to “shock the world” but will also admit defeat: “If Floyd beats me fair and square I’ll hold my hands up and say the better fighter won on the night.” Meanwhile, he is undergoing a special diet, only one third of his meals consisting of real food, while the other two thirds are meal replacement supplements.
Mayweather however seems preoccupied by other things too, such as his image, and not just boxing. He does not seem to lack confidence though, even if his training sessions may have been affected by him participating on the ABC reality show “Dancing with the Stars.”
“It's going to be hard for the sport of boxing to fill my shoes,” said Mayweather according to The Boston Globe.
The thousands of fans who will be present at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas are in for a great fight, a true clash of the titans.
