Actor David Hasselhoff suffered a brief relapse in his recovery from alcoholism earlier this week and was shortly hospitalized; his lawyer said that the incident will probably not affect his custody rights.
“Baywatch” star David Hasselhoff and actress Pamela Bach divorced in 2006, after 16 years of marriage. A bitter custody feud ensued over the couple’s two teenage daughters, Taylor-Ann, 17, and Hayley, 15.
Hasselhoff ultimately received full and physical custody of his two daughters, despite a potentially compromising video tape that surfaced at the time on the internet. It showed the 55-year-old actor in a heavily inebriated state.
Hasselhoff was hospitalized Monday at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after having a relapse in his recovery from alcoholism and was released the following day. His representative, Judy Katz, told Access Hollywood: “David had a brief relapse and immediately recognized the importance of addressing it with the assistance of his doctors. He is doing fine and will be back home in the morning.”
The actor's lawyer, Melvin Goldsman, emphasized Wednesday that the relapse would not jeopardize his custody of Taylor-Anne and Hayley. “I don't think (Tuesday's) incident will affect David's retaining primary physical custody of his daughters, which by the way, was the court's final custody arrangement,” he told People.com.
Upon receiving sole legal custody and primary physical custody of the girls in June, Hasselhoff told reporters, “Enough is enough, these children have been through enough.” The former spouses had accused each other of substance and alcohol abuse and of bad parenting.
At the time, Goldsman said Bach would be able to visit her daughters and vice-versa. Wednesday, he told People that the teenagers had been staying with their mother for the last five weeks because papa Hasselhoff had been away on business.
