Less than a month away until the final Harry Potter book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," hits the shelves, a hacker who calls himself Gabriel, claims he got his hands on a digital copy of J.K. Rowling’s novel by breaking into a computer at London-based Bloomsbury Publishing Plc., Reuters reported.
Gabriel said that he managed to hack into the employee’s computer simply by sending the person an email infected with a virus.
"The attack strategy was the easiest one. It's amazing to see how much people inside the company have copies and drafts of this book," the Telegraph quoted him, as saying.
"We make this spoiler to make reading of the upcoming book useless and boring," the self-alleged criminal said.
Apparently, Gabriel was just following Pope Benedict XVI’s words regarding the threat Harry Potter might be to religion.
"We did it by following the precious words of the great Pope Benedict XVI when he still was Cardinal Josepth (sic) Ratzinger. He explained why Harry Potter bring the youngs (sic) of our earth to Neo Paganism faith," Gabriel states.
The publishers declined to dismiss Gabriel as a hoax, further raising eyebrows. Potter’s U.S. publisher, Scholastic, told everyone to “consider this one more theory.”
"There are lots and lots of rumored versions of the book (on the internet). We don't confirm or deny any rumors," a spokeswoman for Bloomsbury said.
