At least for movies business, Harry Potter proves to be a
real magician as Warner Bros Pictures announced that the five Harry Potter
films to date have totaled $4.47 billion.
"This worldwide box office record once again proves
that the appeal of the Harry Potter movies knows no border, no age limit, and
no language barrier," said Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, Warner Bros Pictures
president of international distribution. "Each of the five films has
captured the hearts and sparked the imagination of audiences everywhere."
According to Warner Bros Pictures Harry Potter movies have
surpassed the box office of all 22 James Bond films and the six Star Wars movies.
Until Harry Potter phenomenon, the James Bond franchise was the
holder of the record with $4.4 billion, while Star Wars movies have totaled $4.23
billion in worldwide box office sales.
The last movie inspired by the adventures of the boy wizard,
“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”
has earned so far $923.7 million.
The first movie inspired by the JK Rowling’s books, “Harry
Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone“, was released in 2001 and it was followed by “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” in
2002. After two years, in 2004 “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” hit
the screens and 2005 was the year of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”.
There are two more movies scheduled for release in the next
three years,”Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” in 2008 and the movie
based on the last books from the series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”
in 2010.
Still it’s very possible that the James Bond franchise will
regain its supremacy as a new movie, “Bond
22” is set to be released in 2008.
