HarperCollins Partners with MySpace, Launches Teen Web Site

A unit of the popular publishing holding HarperCollins signed a partnership with the famous social networking web site MySpace and launched a teen web site as part of the deal. MySpace.com/HarperTeen debuted on Friday and it represents HarperCollins’ second partnership with MySpace.

The Web site features author blogs and book news, forums and message boards, contests and online polls. Additionally, the publishing company’s authors will be able to interact with their fans through scheduled author chats and a Weekend Read bulletin, which will keep people informed about upcoming releases.

“With millions of teens spending their time online every day, it makes perfect sense for us to partner with MySpace to build the HarperTeen community,” said HarperCollins Children’s Books’ vice president of marketing, Diane Naughton.

HarperTeen authors that are already featured on the web site include Wicked Lovely author Melissa Marr, The Luxe author Anna Godbersen, as well as Jenna Bush, the United States of America’s President George W. Bush’s daughter, whose Ana’s Story was published by HarperCollins in September. The recently launched Web site also offers user-generated content tools that allow people to submit and share their own creative writing and receive feedback.

MySpace and HarperCollins partnered for the first time in October, when the two companies decided to join forces to produce an environmental handbook for young people, set for release on Earth Day, April 22. MySpace/Our Planet: Change Is Possible was set to be written by journalist Jeca Taudte and will include a foreword by MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson.
