Hard Time Finding Unbiased Jurors For O.J. Simpson

From the original 500 prospective jurors, only a 12-member panel and six alternates will get to decide whether the former football star is guilty or innocent in the case of the robbery-kidnap that took place in a Las Vegas casino hotel room on Sept. 13, 2007.

Finding unbiased jurors seems to be the greatest problem in this case’s jury selection, as many confessed during initial questioning that they couldn’t put aside how they felt about the 1995 acquittal on Simpson’s double-murder charges and were dismissed. Simpson was acquitted in the slayings of Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman; a civil jury later found him liable for the deaths.

Clark County District Judge Jackie Glass personally lectured the prospective jurors in the case, probably because the whole country is going to closely watch her courtroom and any unbiased decisions may lead to a complete disaster and she didn’t want the whole trial to become a media circus.

“If you are here thinking you are going to punish Mr. Simpson for what happened in Los Angeles in 1995, this is not the case for you," she said. "If you're looking to become famous because of your service in this case, write a book, then this is not the case for you."

Simpson, 61, faces a dozen charges including felony kidnapping, armed robbery, conspiracy, burglary, coercion and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the alleged robbery of two sports collectibles dealers last September.

He and codefendant Clarence “C.J." Stewart, 54, both pleaded not-guilty but could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.
