Happy Or Not About Facebook’s Redesign Plans?

Facebook wants to give its users better control over the information they share by giving the website a brand new look, the company unveiled on Wednesday. Among other things, the new design will include a feed tab, as well as photos and applications tabs, and much more. Not all features will become available instantly, but some users will get to test the new design starting this June.

Chamath Palihapitiya, Facebook’s vice president of product marketing, explained that they are in fact following a trend, and as people are increasingly telling a narrative, they want to make it easier for users to do that. Facebook is currently focusing on the way users want to share information with their friends, as well as be updated with their friends’ latest activities.

Another reason for making the change is to get rid of an overcrowded interface. However, it’s hard to satisfy everyone, and every time changes are made in the interface, there will always be users who will feel unsatisfied and confused about the redesign. Facebbok currently has over 70 million members they need to keep happy.

The developers have already started murmuring about the changes, which they didn’t get to test yet, and how that will affect them, considering users will need an extra click in order to reach some applications. As CNET News reported, some developers complained that Facebook’s platform is dominated by “corporate” apps, and now with those extra clicks, it’s pretty clear some will be very unhappy about the redesign.

And then again, some developers seem happy about it, as one of them, who wished to remain anonymous, confessed to the same source that the new interface is better, more dynamic and allows more room for breathing, adding that the old design was “very constricted.”

The way users and developers will react to the changes is something difficult to predict, but Facebook is confident that most of them will welcome the initiative.
