Hanson Brother Undergoes Surgery, Recovering Well

Isaac Hanson, the eldest brother of the “MMMBop” trio, was hospitalized Tuesday night and underwent surgery yesterday to remove a blood clot in his lungs.

Hanson, 26, was taken to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX after a show at the House of Blues Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press. He had been complaining of chest and shoulder pain.

The young artist was diagnosed with a type of pulmonary embolism called “venous thoracic outlet syndrome,” spokesman Ken Phillips said. Phillips added Isaac had had similar problems in the past, but not as serious as this.

The spokesman also said Isaac was in stable condition now and his surgeon, Dr. Bradley Grimsley, expected the guitarist to make a full recovery, reports the AP. Isaac is expected to be released Friday.

The Hanson brothers have canceled shows in Tulsa, Okla., St. Louis, Mo., and Kansas City, Mo. The band expects to resume its tour Oct. 8 in Knoxville, Tenn.

A message posted on Hanson’s website assures fans that “The band's agents and promoters are working on rescheduling the canceled dates in Tulsa, St. Louis and Kansas City and further announcements regarding possible make-up dates will be made as soon as possible.”

Isaac and his younger brothers, Taylor, 24, and Zac, 21, are all Tulsa, Okla. natives. The siblings began their musical career in the early 1990s. Their debut album, “Middle of Nowhere,” was a success and spawned the song they are best remembered for, “MMMBop,” from 1997.

Isaac married Nicole Dufresne in 2006. The newlyweds welcomed their first child, a boy, in early April 2007. His younger brothers are also married men. Taylor married his girlfriend of two years in 2002 and they have three children, with ages between 1 and almost 5-years-old. Zac married his girlfriend of five years last summer.

The three musicians released their latest studio album, “The Walk,” on July 24, 2007, on the band's own independent label, 3CG Records.
