"Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus spent her 15th birthday in Nashville performing in front of more than 15,000 hometown friends, who sang "Happy birthday" back to her.
"I'll tell you guys that my main wish when my parents asked me, 'Miley, what do you want for your 15th birthday?' The only thing that I had to say was, 'I want to be here at home with Nashville and all of you guys,'" she breathlessly told the sold-out crowd, who erupted into screams.
"The reason that I do what I do is for all of you guys," she said. "Anyone from a small town can go out there and live their dream, and so to be here with you guys tonight on my birthday is amazing."
The young actress, who was recently named one of the 25 Top Stars of 2007 for Entertainment Weekly’s "Entertainers of the Year," was presented with a cake towards the end of her show, while her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, took the stage and performed "Ready, Set, Don't Go," then "Happy Birthday, little girl."
"I'd like to bring out my best friend — that just about says it all — my daddy," Miley announced.
In other news, Disney's popular series "Hannah Montana" is set to take over the big screen and could be looking to shoot the new film in Tennessee, the original home of the fictional Stewart family. The movie is slated to start shooting in April and officials from the state of Tennessee are hoping they can offer studios enough incentives to convince them to shoot in state.
"It would mean a real impact on tourism and it would be a family friendly film that would come to the state," said Perry Gibson, executive director of the Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission.
Louisiana is also interested in hosting the new Disney project and has recently formed an aggressive program to try and bring film business to the state.
"The thing of it is, Walt Disney really wants to film this movie in Tennessee," Billy Ray Cyrus said. Asked if whether he thinks Tennessee can compete against other states like Louisiana, Cyrus replied: "Quite frankly, I think they are pretty close."
