The new wonder kid of Formula One, Lewis Hamilton, won his first
Grand Prix on Sunday in a Canadian Grand Prix full of all kind of events.
From the beginning of the season, Lewis Hamilton won five
podium places including four straight seconds, and he has 48 points.
"This has been a fantastic day. This is history, to
come here and win at my first time in Canada," he said. "I have
been waiting for quite some time for this victory. It was a matter of when and
where."
McLaren team boss Ron Dennis was full of praise for "a
phenomenally well judged race" from Hamilton.
"He drove superbly, got the restarts right, didn't make any mistakes,
avoided the debris - no one gave him this victory," Dennis said.
The world champion en titre, the Spaniard Fernando Alonso
had a disastrous race sliding off the track four times and suffering a 10-point
penalty for a pitstop infringement.
After the victory in Canadian Gran Prix, Hamilton
had taken the lead in the championship, followed by Alonso with 40 points and Brazil's
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa with 33. The other Ferrari’s driver Kimi Raikkonen is
in the 4th place with 27 points.
The Candian Gran Prix was overshadowed by horrific crash
involving Robert Kubica, the BMW-Sauber driver.
In lap 26, after touching Jarno Trulli's Toyota at full
speed Kubica's car flew off the track and smashed into a barrier before
somersaulting back onto the track and coming to a halt with only one wheel left
attached to the cockpit of the car.
Tough it was one of the worst-looking crashes in recent
Formula One history, Kubica escaped without
serious injury.
